ATM Network

It stands for the asynchronous transmission medium. It is a type of multiplexing. It allows using a telephone signal. ATM networks are based on ISON and it allows to deal physically and work voltage bit, timing, and type of signal. ATM consume 53 bits of memory space were 5 bit used for header and 48-bit used for user data. ATM multiplexing is a very small size multiplexing and can be implemented with very small networking devices.

ATM Network provides two levels of connections:

  1. Hierarchial model.
  2. Graphical model.

ATM Network hierarchical model visible for the transport layer but ATM doesn’t support guided medium likes twisted pair cable, co-axial cable, etc. ATM is connection-oriented multiplexing that allows creating virtual circuits for data transmission.

Advantages of ATM  Network use small size memory:

  1. ATM  Network can be applied with any small network or component.
    Eg:- Bluetooth device.
  2. ATM can be transferred easily over the network due to its small size.
  3. ATM supports unguided transmission medium. so, we can easily work with wi-fi, Bluetooth, and satellite communication.
